Hysteria2

How the Hysteria2 protocol works in V2RayTun — a high-speed QUIC-based proxy with salamander obfuscation.

What Is Hysteria2?

Hysteria2 is a proxy protocol built on QUIC (UDP-based transport). It is optimized for high-throughput, lossy networks and includes built-in obfuscation to bypass DPI. V2RayTun integrates Hysteria2 as a native Xray inbound, so it runs alongside VLESS Reality within the same Xray-core process.

Key Features

  • QUIC transport — multiplexed, encrypted UDP streams with built-in congestion control.
  • Salamander obfuscation — transforms QUIC packets so they no longer match known QUIC signatures.
  • Brutal congestion control — allows manual bandwidth targets for maximum throughput on unreliable links.

Salamander Obfuscation

Salamander wraps each QUIC packet in a layer that randomizes its structure. An observer sees UDP traffic that does not match any known protocol fingerprint.

The obfuscation is configured with a shared password between client and server. V2RayTun generates this password automatically per inbound.

Configuration in V2RayTun

Hysteria2 is enabled per node. V2RayTun handles the following automatically:

  1. Creates an Xray Hysteria2 inbound on the configured port.
  2. Generates a TLS certificate (self-signed or via the panel's CA).
  3. Sets the salamander obfuscation password.
  4. Assigns per-user passwords derived from user UUIDs.

Default port: 8443 (TCP/UDP).
